Amongst Giants – Pt5

This week Lyndon spoke part five in the series Amongst Giants.

Joshua – Facing our Fear (Giant slayers)

Joshua took over from Moses, he took the Israelites into the promised land.

Life will have things that will challenge us. If we bow to the fear that stops us we become its servant.

Meaning of Giant: an imaginary or mythical being of human form but of super human size.

Numbers 13:17-20 tells of the Israelites failure to enter the promised land. 10 spies were looking with natural eyes (looking in front) but Joshua and Caleb saw with what they had come from (behind them). Joshua and Caleb saw what God did – Miracles in Egypt, Wall of fire, Red sea, Rock of water, Bitter water to sweet, Quail and Manna from heaven.

We often forget what God has done for us. If God has done it before, He will do it again.

Fear is a liar! Israel was stuck. Stuck for 40 years.

Often we see ourselves as so small (Numbers 13:33). It’s a grasshopper mentality. After the 40 years 2 spies stayed with Rahab and she spoke the truth – the Canaanites lived in fear of the Israelites. They had heard all that had happened in Egypt and after. How often do we not take the promised land when we think of the others, we are thinking the wrong thing. Giants are not the problem it’s how we see ourselves. We think of ourselves small, but we need to make ourselves big. God rides in on strength and courage. YOU ARE READY NOW! You only have to be a couple of steps ahead to be ready. Don’t hold back, don’t be a grasshopper.

Giants cast a shadow. It puts us in darkness. Step back, as you get far enough back you are in the light. Ask someone else to help.

We are not alone God is with us. The commander of the army is with us and he is not alone. We have a whole army on our side. The Holy Spirit is in our lives and fights and defends us – fire from the inside. God told Joshua “Be strong and courageous” 3x and that is for us also. Use what God has given you to be who God wants you to be. Be confident in God.

Vulnerability is having circumcision of the heart. God wants to cut away stuff out of our lives, He wants more of us. God will put us in a situation where we will be vulnerable.

Once we are vulnerable for God, He will be able to use us. What stops you from going forward? Vulnerability is not weakness. We don’t share what is going on in our lives.

God wants us to take new ground.

He wants us to live in His promises.

Power to the weak and strength to the powerless

He will fight for us

We will have a long life if we honour our parents

Those that hope in the Lord will renew their strength

We will run and not grow weary

He knows the plans he has for us

He will strengthen and carries our burdens

His love is unfailing

He promises wisdom if we ask

He forgives us

He will never leave us nor forsake us

He who believes will have eternal life. He who the Son sets free is free indeed

Whatever you ask in prayer will be yours

He gives strength and courage

He gives peace that the world can not give

He meet our needs

He will save us from our enemies

He is our comforter

As we delight in Him, He will give us the desires of our hearts
